Endorse Lynn Davis for Re-Election to the Tustin School Board 2022 HERE!
Dear Friends and Neighbors:
What did I do for a career? I was involved for decades in high technology businesses in various career positions including serving as an advisor to start-ups and the Chief Financial Officer.
My important experience in high-tech convinced me that we needed to do a better job of integrating technology in education - not just teaching technology, but using technology intelligently to help students learn better and help teachers collaborate better.
I also became aware of how very little most high school students understand the adult world of work.
I've often shared some interesting jobs or businesses that people I know have made for themselves, very often getting the reaction "I didn't even know that was a job!"
But a job or business is anything that helps another person meet some goal or desire for which they are willing to pay you directly or indirectly - so in today's world, jobs we couldn't imagine before happen all the time.
So I am excited for the futures of both of my TUSD graduate children, AND ALSO the five nieces that I have attending or who recently graduated from TUSD high schools, and especially for my four grandchildren the youngest of whom just celebrated a first birthday who will have opportunities we cannot imagine.
Not all students go to four year colleges or universities. That is why in addition to having a quality program of college prep available to all students, we also have numerous "Career Technology Pathways" in which students can learn skills and often earn certifications, work in internships and otherwise explore a viable career path that has a bright future in today's economy.
These programs ALSO set our college students apart from others who do not have this chance.
AND with their quality Tustin Unified education, they are just as prepared for high tech job training as for college. But having met the course requirements for four-year college, it is THEIR choice whether a technical school or university is the best choice for them. They can even choose one now and the other later. AND the universities tell us that our students are better prepared than ever when they get there!
And all of this was made possible first by "Measure S" which was approved by over 60% of local voters including Tustin, North Tustin, Santa Ana, Tustin Ranch and Irvine.
My friends Bill Pevehouse, Margie Sepulveda and I earned a "Community Service Award" for all of the efforts we made to bring this about - a stronger education very small investment by local residents. It has now been positively impacting our students for nearly a decade!
